Ritsu Doan represents the beginning of a new generation for Japanese football – born two days after
the milestone of Japan’s first game at a World Cup finals, and already in training for the Tokyo Olympic
Games in 2020. A left-footed player blessed with pace, intricate dribbling skills and surprisingly good physical strength,
Doan made his first appearances for Gamba Osaka in the Asian Champions League and the J. League just before his 17th birthday.
Incredibly versatile, he is at home anywhere across the three behind the striker but has previously played at full-back and pulls
the strings from the base of midfield for Japan’s Under-18s. Ben Mabley @BenMabley
